Ingress and Photography: Further We Go…

ingress 2

For those of you “uninitiated” with the world of “Ingress”, it’s basically a world-wide game of capture the flag or “conquest”.  Essentially Enlightened (Green) compete with Resistance (Blue) to capture as much MU’s (Mind Units) as possible.  How this is accomplished is by capturing “portals” which could be anything from a city hall, monument, park, library or any other place of interest.  After capturing a portal you have the ability to “link” said portal to others throughout the area.

This is a BEFORE screen capture of what I did the other night. Notice the Blue portal center-left.

...and this is the AFTER screen capture. I took down the Blue portal, made it Green and connected it to the surrounding Green portals to create "fields".

It’s involved, consumes time and forces you to work together with your respective team.  I had no intention of tapping into the social aspect of the game, but eventually I had no choice.  It was either coordinate or get completely overrun by the opposition.  Ingress has taken me to some spectacular places, in my area that I had no idea about before.  The game is about movement, you can’t sit still and play Ingress.  So far since I’ve started playing 4 months ago I’ve walked over 160km.  So there is some physical fitness appeal as well.

My intention with Ingress and this page is to showcase the locations I go to.  However, taking pictures will prove to be a challenge, as i play mostly during the night. But in some cases I capture some real gems.  Plans are in the works for Ingress road trips.  Finding new unique places and linking to some Green!

I’d love to hear your insight moving forward with this project.

Until next time, field it up.
